Meet John Stech

John Stech had a 30-year career in the automotive industry working with several international car brands. He was always the youngest leader in the room until one day he wasn’t. A corporate restructuring, and subsequent job loss just as the Covid pandemic set in during 2020, opened John’s eyes to new opportunities outside of the corporate world.

During his career he sat on both sides of the table when it came to ageist corporate policies. He witnessed multiple buyout offers and retirement packages targeted at over-55 workers. Later, he felt the sting of ageism in the job search.

While exploring job opportunities, he learned about the modern job-hunting process, LinkedIn profile optimization, the ATS-friendly resume, and more.

He ultimately decided to forge a new career in independent automotive consulting and podcasting, eschewing the corporate world. He is constantly learning new skills, new tech, and leveraging his 30 years of business experience with clients, mentees, and his podcast audience.

Why Ageism Survival Guide?

The idea for the Ageism Survival Guide was hatched in 2025. John Stech saw a tremendous number of friends, peers, and former colleagues pushed out of their corporate jobs as thousands of jobs were eliminated. Many of the departures were involuntary after decades with the same employers.

Peers reached out to John asking advice how he had made the change to independent consulting work. And many asked how the modern job search process worked, something that baffled them after decades with a single company.

It became clear that something had to be done to support workers over 50 during this highly critical time, not only reacting to ageism-based job loss but also being prepared for it, or learning how to avoid it.

The Ageism Survival Guide was born as a platform to help 50+ workers with pragmatic advice on today’s job market and career transition.
